Somerset Medical Center is committed to enhancing the health of central New Jersey residents through a variety of seminars, programs, support groups and health screenings. SMC also provides many outreach programs to the underserved. Below are just a few of our Community Health programs.
Family Practice Maternity - provides uninsured/low-income women with comprehensive prenatal care needed to achieve healthy pregnancies and better birth outcomes. Health education and preventive care help women become better health care consumers.
Medication Assistance Program - helps disadvantaged patients acquire free and reduced-cost prescription drugs so that they are not forced to forgo vital medication or sacrifice other essentials such as food, rent and heat. Patients meet one-on-one with a Registered Nurse who helps them obtain medication and monitors their conditions.
Community Cares Fund - is a compassionate way to help patients who find themselves in an unexpected and unavoidable health care crisis. The fund enables SMC to continue to treat every patient with state-of-the-art procedures by offsetting the cost of unreimbursed care. Each year, the medical center provides nearly $10 million in care for which it does not receive any payment.
SAIL (Senior Advantage In Life) - an exciting, free program for individuals age 60 and above. It offers senior-specific, medically focused programs and discounted services to enhance health and well-being.
